Panic attacks

Panic attacks can feel sudden and frightening, often with chest tightness, breathlessness, dizziness or fear of losing control. They are common and treatable, but should be assessed thoughtfully.

What it can feel like

Racing heart; Breathlessness; Dizziness; Fear of fainting; Avoiding places after attacks

When to seek help sooner

Seek help if panic leads to avoidance, repeated emergency visits or fear of being alone.

How treatment works

The work is to understand the panic cycle, rule out relevant medical concerns, and build a plan for prevention and recovery.
