OCD Treatment in Mohali & Online Across India

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) involves unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) carried out to ease the distress they cause. It is common, often misunderstood, and very treatable. Dr Pragya Sharma offers confidential assessment in person in Mohali and online across India.

Signs you might notice

Recurring intrusive thoughts, images or urges that feel distressing

Repeated behaviours such as checking, washing, counting or seeking reassurance

A sense of having to do something “just right”

Significant time lost to these routines

Awareness that the thoughts are excessive, but difficulty stopping

When to seek help

If intrusive thoughts or repetitive behaviours are taking up significant time or causing distress, an assessment can help. OCD responds well to the right treatment, and you don’t have to manage it alone.

How treatment works

Assessment builds an understanding of your particular pattern of obsessions and compulsions, and explains how the OCD cycle keeps itself going. The plan often includes a specific talking therapy (exposure and response prevention) and medication where appropriate, with regular review.

FAQs

Does having intrusive thoughts mean something is wrong with me?

No. Intrusive thoughts are common, and having them does not reflect your character or intentions. In OCD, the difficulty is the distress they cause and the compulsions used to relieve it — both of which respond to treatment.

Is OCD just about being tidy or organised?

No. That’s a common misunderstanding. OCD is not a personality trait or a liking for order; it involves distressing intrusive thoughts and compulsions that can centre on many themes, and it can significantly affect daily life.
